Make documents easier to share

Large scans and image-heavy PDFs can be difficult to email or upload. Compression can reduce their size, with a tradeoff between image detail and file size. Already optimised files may not shrink much.

How to compress a PDF

  1. Upload a PDF

Sign in or create an account, then add the PDF to your workspace.

  2. Choose compression settings

Open the compress tool and choose settings that balance file size and readability.

  3. Check and download

Compare the output size and inspect text and images before downloading the result.

A few things to know.

Will compression affect quality?

It can. Stronger compression may reduce image detail. Review the result, especially if your PDF contains small text in scans or detailed graphics.

Why did my PDF barely shrink?

Some PDFs are already compressed or contain mostly text. The reduction depends on the source file and the settings you choose.

Can I keep the original document?

Keep a copy of your source file. Download the compressed result separately so you can return to the original if you need higher quality.
